Canva (www.canva.com) is another popular tool to create beautiful designs
and documents. Canva is available free for use over the internet. It is quite
easy to use and enables anyone to become a designer. You need not have any
pre-requisite knowledge to use this software. I would go to say that this is
design for dummies! Just log in, follow the instructions, create stunning
designs and amaze yourself!
Everything about Canva is infused with design thinking. The user interface design at the sign-in page of Canva is very sophisticated and attractive. As you
move the mouse over the sign-in page, the blurred background gives way to a
clear circular image, which follows your mouse pointer movement. This is a
small playful feature by Canva. You can
sign up and log in to Canva over the web either through your facebook or google
credentials. You can sign up with your email as well.
Once you log in, you have all the tools in your hand to
create nice designs. Canva offers the user to create a wide variety of canvas to work on. You can create cards, logo, flyers, banners, posters, resumes, brochures, book covers, presentations, infographics and various other images. Apart from providing various photo editor features, Canva allows the designer to add stickers, customized text and textures, badges, speech bubbles to the canvas. Canva also offers a wide range of templates and stock photos for use. Some are free and some are paid.
Social media posters, presentations, facebook posts, blog
graphic, email headers typically have specific pre-defined dimensions. Once you
select the type of design you want to do, Canva creates the canvas for that
dimension and allows you to play with it. You can create your customized
dimension as well. One cool feature of Canva is that, apart from templates for social
media graphics, Canva has pre-defined
template for various documents like US Letter, A4 paper, Magazine, resumes and
certificates. These could be very useful for school and university students. There
is a set of option for the bibliophiles who are into blogging and books. You
can design eBook covers, Wattpad book cover, Kindle cover, Blog title, Album
Cover and Blog Graphics.
Once you select a pre-defined template, Canva loads the
editor which is your playground that allows you to play god! You can create
designs only limited by your imagination. It allows you to use various layouts
for your design. You can add various graphic elements in your design like photos,
grids, frames, shapes, lines, illustrations, icons, charts etc. You can use
your pwn pictures also. Once you are done with the graphics layout, you can add
various text. There is a host of pre-defined text boxes with frames that you
have to drag and drop on your design, write your message and customize it. The
background can also be changed.
Once you are done with your design, you can share it with
friends through facebook or twitter. You can also download them for your
personal use.
Canva is available as a different application for iPad and
for Wordpress as well. There are many organizations that use Canva for work.
Canva is also offered free for use for not-for-profit organizations. There is a
discount available for teachers.
If you have not checked out Canva yet, you should do so
immediately. It is intuitive and even a 6 year old can start her design using
this tool. If you are into poster designs or any other creative design pursuit,
